I Wept

I wept with the rest of the nation
As John John said good-by to his father with a salute
At the age of three.

I wept with the rest of the nation
As J.F.K. jr. said good-by to the world
As he flew his plane into the sea.

I wept with the rest of the nation
For his sister Caroline,
The only one left of a family of four.

I wept with the rest of the nation
For the children
He never bore.

I wept with the rest of the nation
For the elections
He never got to see.

I wept with the rest of the nation
For the President
He never got to be.

I wept.
